Jen’s Home Makeover: PART I

In the 2nd grade, my parents moved me down to a

bedroom

in the basement.  It was dark.  Unfinished.  There were spiders.  And wooden walls.  With a small, illegal window well that let in a smidge of light, cast through cobwebs and salamanders peering in at me.  Summer rain storms would leak in, running down the walls and soaking my carpet.

It was my dream come true.

Some little girls wished for the latest My Little Pony, Light Bright, or Popple.  Not I.  Well, yes I.  But even moreso, I wished for a place to organize and decorate seasonally.  I dreamed of fluffing pillows, rearranging craft drawers, and color coordinating my linens & accessories.  In honor of my Big Move downstairs, I received a full-size bed, mauve carpet, and a creme-hand-me-down desk with gold etching.

Sigh.

I loved my cold, dark, smelly bedroom.  Hours upon hours were spent decorating my desk each month with a new “Monthly Theme.”  In February, it was covered in pink hearts and teddy bears.  In December, it was covered in cotton balls, sticky candy canes and leftover ornaments that didn’t make the tree.  I loved decorating.

And some things never change…

When I moved to Colorado 15 months ago, my bedroom looked like this:

But somewhere along the way, it turned into THIS:

Which made me feel like this:

This past month, I decided that enough was enough.  I couldn’t eat.  I couldn’t sleep.  I couldn’t even blog.  Yes, it was that bad folks.  So what did I do?  I rolled up my sleeves and got to work.  My first item of business…PAINT DRESSER:

Next on the agenda…REVAMP CHANDELIER:

Next…GO SHOPPING!  This included thrift stores, Ikea, Home Depot, TJMax, and the back of my own closet to find the best deals.

Next Step…PAINT, DECORATE, & STAY UP UNTIL THE WEE HOURS OF THE MORNING TO ACCOMPLISH THIS {click photos to enlarge}:

And the final step?  Sleep.  Buried into fuzzy blankets, down comforters, pillow-top mattresses, squishy pillows, and your “It Took Me 30 Years to Look This Good” sweatshirt.  If, um, you have one, that is.  Errrr….mmmm…
